It has become more difficult to shop with our economy the way it is. Purchasing items that are necessities come before luxuries. Coupons are becoming increasingly more popular as a way for cutting back on the cost of shopping. I have to admit though I am the customer that used to stand in line complaining about how long it was taking for another customer to sift through their coupons. I had a very wide opening event though that completely changed my thoughts in regards to coupon users. A customer in front of me one day at the store was told by the cashier she had saved seventy dollars. Against my better judgment I asked how she saved so much. Her response was “I used a lot of buy one get one free coupons.”
My total purchase was tremendously higher than the customer in front of me and she had triple the amount of items as I did. Frustrated and curious I made it my vow to go home and research this coupon using thing so I also could save money on groceries.
I can remember as a child wanting to go somewhere but having to wait until my mom was done cutting out her Sunday newspaper coupons. I grumbled then as well. Now on a mission I figured what better way to start looking into the coupon hype than with the Sunday paper. I found a coupon for almost every item I normally purchased as well as coupons for getting my oil changed and one to try the restaurant down the street.
There was one for the spa close to my house. I have always wanted to spend the day there being pampered but reality would set in and I knew money would prevent from it. The coupon stated bring a friend and receive a free massage with a manicure and pedicure purchase. The heavens open up and I called my sister. We spent three luxurious hours being pampered for thirty dollars each. I am now a believer in coupons.
For those of you who eat out a lot, there are coupons available to save you tons of money. There is a coupon available for any type of food you prefer. A word of advice though is read the coupon completely as some may require you to purchase one item in order to get another free or a price limit on the meals available for get one free discounts.
Before cutting out the coupon for groceries, read them completely. Some will have the savings in bold letters but farther down it will state another purchase must be made to make the coupon valid. For example, save fifty cents on a package of bagels if you buy a package of tofu. It is a great deal if you eat tofu. If you do not eat tofu and will only throw it away, you really did not save any money. If fact you spent more than you would have with simply purchasing the bagels.
It does take time to find and cut out all of the coupons you will need, but if you use them it will be well worth the effort. Newspapers are the best place to start your coupon collection. Sunday papers are loaded with them. If you prefer to get your coupons online, there are sites that will send them directly to your email.
Coupons will make a big dent in the final cost at the cash register. You have to be dedicated to finding them and using them. Store ads will often times offer buy one get one free coupon for weekly items so check the store ads as well as the newspaper and online.
